Bio
Teresa Lapayese, born in Madrid, Spain in 1966 within a background of a family devoted to art.
Her professional training starts in the School of Applied Arts, where she studies the branch of Volume Techniques, to obtain her Bachelor Title in 1988. Between 1990 and 1995 she keeps studying to achieve the Master of Fine Arts in Painting at the “Universidad Complutense de Madrid”. Right after the degree obtaining she won a scholarship in the Landscape Forum of Fine Arts in the beautiful medieval town of Ayllón, near Segovia.
1998 Painting teacher (Contemporary Art) in the Arauco Fine Arts Academy.
Her work defines her as a precise and meticulous artist, gifted with an acute and handcrafted skillfullness, whose main ally is light, what turns out to be the indisputable main feature in her pictures, telling everything about her rather than any article we could write. Her paintings are flooded with light, they actually ooze light, spreading all over the different elements of the composition, the varied textures and qualities, be it cloth, porcelain, fruit or crystal. Another impotant influence in Teresa Lapayese´s work is Johannes Vermeer, the alchemist of light, one of Lapayese´s favorite painters, whose pictures are a guiding light, so to speak, for our Madrid born artist.
