Bio:
Rick is a representational oil painter based in New York City who has worked and shown his work there for the past 15 years.
His formal training is from the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan, from which he holds a Fine Arts degree, and from numerous ateliers and artists’ leagues in New York City. Focusing on portraiture and the figure, he works mostly in oil and prefers working from the live model whenever possible.
He is an award-winning artist who participates regularly in regional,
national and international juried shows and competitions throughout the East Coast and beyond. His work is in private, corporate and public collections.

Artist statement:
The is no better muse to the artist than the model. No subject to the representational painter that fulfills more perfectly the promise in painting of bringing something to life on the canvas. As a painter, my love affair with the model and the human form, in general, has endured many years and continues on as strongly as ever.
Whether thru the individual portrait or the more universal nude, the human form offers the artist a subject as complete, pliable, complex and compelling as
any. My pursuit of art has been largely about studying it and putting it on the canvas with a sense of the intimacy and magic of the experience that is to paint the human form. I feel that my paintings of the model work when they are much a visual essay of the subject before me as a tangible artifact of the relationship, however brief, that existed during the time that the model and artist came together in the joint venture of creating a painting.
